I notice that the only version available for download with my 6 license is 6.5.0a from 2017-02-02. Does this mean that the free license will no longer includes "Update" releases since Update 1 is now available? Or do I need to contact support to get a different key?
I think there's a disconnect here. I'm an enthusiast running a free version of ESXi to house various VMs that are up 24x7 to provide services for my home network and locally hosted apps. The box I built started out as 4.1 back in 2011. I've been upgrading it since and am now running 6.0u2 on that same hardware. So a 60-day trial isn't going to work for me. My license is free, with no time-limit, but also no vCenter. Typically I don't upgrade until at least "Update 1" is released. I expected them to release an "Update 1" for my free license, but all they have is 6.5.0a. That's why I was asking if I needed to obtain an updated "free" license (different from trial) to access further 6.5 updates. Or if those updates were even forthcoming from vmware for their free license.
Vmware license key free
I think I read all the above posts slowly enough but the answer is still not clear.I have the esxi/free license and on my vmware download page, the newestversion which I can download is 6.5.0a (as per the user above)- which is 3 versions behind the latest.Does vmware have an official answer on how one can obtain the esxi/freelatest version and whether the free license that one already has is still valid ?
M4T answered your question, yes there is a free ESXi 6.5U1, but there are new limitations to the usage of it. as long as you do not have a requirement of VM's greater the 8vCPU (Socket or Core) then it will work as previously.
Thanks, but that is not answering my question - let me rephrase: If I am satisfied to use the free versionwith it's limitations, how do I get the latest version eg. 6.5.d or newer ? At the moment, when I go tomy download area, 6.5.a is the latest/newest version listed.
log in to my vmware -> Products -> Trial and free productsand next to "Download Free products", I click on "VmWare vSphereHypervisor (64bit). This results in a list of all already downloaded versionsand not all available versions.
So that I'm clear for the future, could you clarify which downloadlink is that ? - is it vmware ->downloads ->VmWare vSphere ->Download Product ->Standard ->go to downloads (BTW Essential version has the same file size) ?
So, my VMware license expired and I needed a new one fast for school, I went on github and found a license (ZF3R0-FHED2-M80TY-8QYGC-NPKYF) and it worked! I was surprised since I entered it as a joke with my friends.. It seems that multiple people are using this key and I thought this seemed kinda sketchy.. I went on google to find out more about it and it seems that there is a thing called a Universal License Key which is used for previous versions for free but with limited features. Though I didn't find a source I can fully trust, so my question stands: What is a Universal License Key? Are there any dangers?
I registered myself as a private user. I downloaded Fusion 12. During installation on my Mac (10.15.6) I selected to request a free license key, but I get sent to a link with a company logon. When I enter the e-mail address I get a message that it already is used.
This is the link that is supposed to work: =fusion-player-personalYou do need a My VMware account, so if folks already have one the process should be quick, but if not they'll have to 'register' for one before they 'register' for the personal use license...
I have the same question. I'm retired and wanted the VMWare Fuson Player for home use. I signed up for MyVMWare (very, very difficult). Finally, I was able to download the SW and learned there was no license key!.. Now I find I am competing with lots of people for "free keys"... This is crazy! VMWare is a good product but this site has an insane number of rabbit holes to get lost in. I am definitely lost... There is supposed to be some sort of page called "License Keys" sub-linked from the Home Page that has your key... . But I can't find that page!. Anyone have any idea where the "License Key" page is?
For two hours I am trying to figure out to get the license key for personal use and finally stumbled on this thread. I registered as a private person, should register again for the key, had to enter a company name? and no real phone number was accepted. The VMware sites feel like an experience of 4-dimensional space, you never know where you come out or where you are when you go back. This is the short version.
I could solve the problem. I am not sure which factor exactly helped me to get to the private license. But I set Safari as my default browser. I think copying the url from chrome did not work. I also switched my DNS from personal PiHole-Adblocker-DNS to a public dns. After this clicking the Link in the Installer worked.

vSphere 7.0 has been released and as known from previous versions, VMware provides a free version of their Hypervisor ESXi for everyone again. The license key can be created for free at VMware's website. It has no expiration date. The binaries you will receive as "Free Hypervisor" are 100% identical to the paid version but with some software limitations.
I had the same problem with the esxi downloading in both Chrome & Firefox browsers, but once I've opened the vmware site in private/anonymous mode I easily got registered for evaluation and got a license with download links.
VMWare's VSphere ESXi is available for free from VMWare.com. When clients order a server with ESXi, it is provisioned in evaluation mode for 60 days with the paid tier of ESXi. If no license key is installed prior to the end of the evaluation period, the VM's will be shut down and will not be able to be turned back on until a license is applied.
